How Time Passes
for chamber orchestra
Boston Series
1967/1972; 5:57 min.
How Time Passes as heard here is the first part of a longer composition of 15 min. that was never performed in its entirety (see notes on my unperformed music.) As holds for the piece as a whole, it is an exploration of density and color. Texture, the primary form-giving parameter, is carefully varied. The subsequent parts of the piece, here not heard, comprise a virtuosic piano part — an independent piece in itself — and a set of brass instruments.
